Somcord
Produced by spinning natural, white or coloured kraft tape. The result is a flexible hard cord available in a range of diameters. Cords are coloured in the factory using water-based dyes, to meet customer requirements.

Sizes range from 1.9mm - 8mm diameter.

Somyarn
Spun from rolls of natural Kraft, this product can be produced in its natural state or coloured using water based dyes (most colours can be matched). The Kraft is conditioned with moisture to assist the manufacturing of a fine yarn, which can be either fully spun, half-spun, or in 'tape form'. Somyarn can be produced on either small x-wind spools, or larger machine packages.
Sizes of yarn range from 0.75mm - 2.2mm diameter.

Applications:
• For weaving various fabrics (eg. floor coverings, wall coverings, Furniture fabrics and upholstery)

Supersoft
A soft cord made from cellulose wadding which is ideal as piping cord, tack roll, and used for various sculptures. The raw material is produced from pure and recycled pulp. Cellulose wadding is safe to use and non-hazardous, as is the braiding which is used to hold its shape.

Sizes range from 3.6mm -> 55.0mm diameter

Stiched Edge Supersoft
A supersoft cord which has a non woven tape stitched round it to create a flange. Used to attach the cord to a frame, where a square frame edge can be rounded off when fabric is stretched over it.

Sizes range from 0.5" - 1" Diameter.

Somflex (plastic piping)
Manufactured from extruded and expanded Polyethylene. Somflex is a flexible and resilient plastic piping cord ideal for use with heavier cloths, including dralons, moquettes and leather.

Sizes range from 2mm - 8mm diameter

• Piping for heavier upholstery fabrics
• Edging filler for prams
• Side panel framing for bags

Somtack
A plastic edging roll made from extruded plastic. Somtack is a smooth flexible cord designed especially for the upholstery industry. When stapled to a chair frame it gives a firm regular edge on seat backs and fronts, especially where a scroll front is required.

Sizes range from 8mm - 20mm diameter.

Sombraid
Produced by plaiting together several kraft cords to produce a decorative braid. Sombraid is an attractive trimming product, widely used in the manufacture of Lloyd Loom furniture.

Applications:
• Furniture trimming & concealment of joints
• Hat trimming

 

Shaped Somcords
Produced as kraft cords in either a 'd-section' shape (flat on one side), or a 'flat' shape (flat on both sides). These products are used widely in the manufacture of Lloyd Loom furniture as trimming. They can be wrapped around the wooden frame of the furniture, or used to cover joints.

There are various other types of piping cords available from Somic, some of which include:
• Knitted Polyester - fully washable & very consistent shape
• Cotton piping cords - very soft piping, ideal for cushions etc.
• Stretch Nylon piping cords - knitted washable cord with the ability to stetch, making it ideal for use in 'loose covers' on furniture 

• Non-woven piping cords - an alternative to Supersoft for piping where the end product needs to be fully washable
• Other plastic extrusions (from various types of compounds), which give a softer, more flexible cord to the Somflex, but with all the other characteristics.
