Textile-coatings
Somic coat textiles with pvc, polyurethane, polypropylene, tpo, tpu, acrylic and many other polymers. The base textiles can vary from open scrim to woven carbon fibre, non woven, stitch bonded, felt through to traditional cotton or cotton polyester.
We can hot melt coat up to 150cm wide and spread coat up to 180cm wide and can apply coatings of various thickness regulated by means of a beta gauge. Flame retardant and other specifications can be met if required and indicative test certificates issued.

One of the most recognisable of Somic’s coating processes is the hot melt pvc. The customers’ fabrics can be coated in a clear (or coloured) pvc to give either a high gloss, or more subtle matt finish. The resulting fabric, often called oilcloth, can then be used as a wipe-clean, waterproof material to produce tablecloths, aprons & bags. The thickness of the pvc coating can be varied according to the end use.

A similar method of pvc coating is also used to produce fabrics for many different end uses such as; mattress tickings; pipe linings; various nursery products.

Somic also produces coated materials for Garment Identification (badges & emblems) for workwear/casualwear designed to meet the stringent requirements of Industrial Laundry.

In addition to our commission coating services where customers supply their own substrate and specification and in some cases coating material as well, Somic also produce their own range of blind and awning fabrics, black out material and car hooding.

Latest developments include coating with non pvc polymers which are increasingly in demand in the European and American motor trade.
