One of the most recognised of Somic’s woven fabrics to this day is the Somweave for Lloyd Loom Furniture. Lloyd Loom furniture was originally very popular in the 1930’s, and has since re-established itself as the forefront of modern design, using our traditional British manufactured fabric to produce beautiful yet durable furniture.

The Somweave is produced as continuous rolls of machine-woven fabric which are very smooth to touch. The rolls of weave have no joins in them, so furniture produced from Somweave will not snag on clothing.
The weft (cross-strands) of the weave are made up of steel reinforcements wrapped in Kraft paper, which match the Kraft paper warp (vertical strands), to provide strength, springiness, and a lasting shape, which does not creak or crack with use.

Standard widths for the Lloyd Loom material which are in regular production are: 41cm, 46cm, 61cm, 66cm, 74cm, 84cm, 94cm & 140cm (other widths may be available, depending on quantities).
Standard roll size – nominal 25m

Characteristics of the weave:
Sturdy
Easy to assemble round a frame
Strong, hardwearing & pliable material – reinforced with steel
Once fitted to a frame, the weave will not sag/lose shape during use
Consistant texture, smoothness & strength
Long lasting
Can be coloured / lacquered after make-up of furniture
Matching braids / flattened cords available for concealing joints & trimming the furniture (click here for more information)
The paper is sourced from renewable forests (managed plantations)

Applications for the weave include:
Chairs, sofas, tables, panels, laundry baskets, bins.
Ideal for conservatory furniture

Somic’s loom differs from other Loom fabrics available for various reasons:

Our material is produced in England (in our Preston factory), using Scandinavian Virgin Kraft, along with an electro-galvanised high tensile mild steel hard drawn wire (the electro-galvanising helps to reduce the possibility of corrosion, even in damp conditions).
The wire used in Somic's Loom follows the specification of original Lloyd Loom fabric, which allows the traditional manufacture of seating without additional support (many manufacturers no longer use these specifications).
Once woven, we spray the Loom with a base coat, which both stabilizes the weave, and acts as a primer for further painting & lacquering.
